Hello Van (and cc David), October 27, 1996
I found you on the www, and hope we may have a connection.
After finding your listing of Blackwells, I called my brother in Georgia (Hall Co.) who lived with our aunt Belle (Blackwell) Hayes, from the late 40's there in Gainesville. Her sister, Anna Elizabeth Blackwell) Cabe was my grandmother. I know of one brother Freeman Blackwell, who was in WW 1, and from grandmothers death certificate, that their father was Edward Blackwell.
According to family lore, Edwards wife was Cherokee. I do not know her name. Thus far I have;
Edward Blackwell, b.?, d., m.?, Children:
There were other children, I do not know who or how many. My mother, daughter of Anna Elizabeth and William M. Cabe was named Nora Belle Cabe. She attended college in Spartanburg SC. There is knowledge (from a cousin) that there are relatives on the Blackwell side living in the Spartanburg/Greenville SC area.
I am attempting to locate a 1st cousin, somewhere in SC, who is in possesion of grandmothers family bible. His name is Richard O'Shields, thus far I have been unsuccessful in locating him.
I would be eternally grateful for any assistance you may provide, and a acknowledgment to this e-mail.
There is one more tidbit...my brother mentioned that one of aunt Belle's brothers moved from Hall/Cobb Co GA to TN.
