Bagshawe of Abney 1300 -1870, Ford Hall, Wormhill, etc.
Bagshaws in Hope Parish Registers 1599-1645 and 1661-1700
I am looking for the ancestors of Alice
Bagshaw (bap.1702 Oct.25) dau.of Peter and Ann
of Abney. Date from the Hope Parish Register Manuscript. She married Abraham
Blackwell of Hucklow. They are ancestors of mine, and as you can
see
there are many possible connections.

I suppose you have seen the will of John Bagshaw of Abney who died in
the
early months of 1732/3. I see from my notes that he had sons Robert,
William,
& Peter. The will dated December 1732 mentioned two grandsons but
no
mention of granddaughters. ...
... I had not seen this will so the question may then becomes who are the parents of John Bagshaw of Abney who died in 1732 and left this will.DCB I have in my notes somewhere ( I have not found them yet) Bagshaw births and marriages of this period in Hope which Abney is part of. (Abney is between Hucklow and Hope.)

(2-20-96)
It was a pleasure to talk with you last night. I look forward to sharing our family information. I did get your E-mail today; I will send your message to Carol and I'll send greetings to Mr. Newton. I have compiled a brief version of my lineage:
John Bagshaw b. Apr. 1791 Hope, Derbyshire, son of ?John &
Elizabeth Bagshaw;
m. Mary Cooper Aug. 31, 1812 Hope, Derbyshire
As I said last night, I have hit the wall with John Bagshaw/Mary Cooper. Although I have indicated his parents, it's only guesswork via date approximation from reviewing the IGI files from the LDS.
One thing that interests me is Caroline Bagshaw in Ontario. If you'll notice, Arthur Edward was married to Sarah Randlett in and of Kingsley, Quebec, Canada. My dad believes that Mary came into the US via Canada. As I explained, I'm trying to determine if Mary entered the US through Boston or Philadelphia. Who knows what I'll find.
Enough for you to digest for now. I will snail-mail you a wider
family
tree. Let me know if you find anything. THANKS!!!!!!!

DCB: I expect Neil will need to examine the Hope Parish Records. The manuscript is at the Society of Genealogist in London. The Hope records were not in the IGI last time I looked. Only published parish records plus whatever individuals put in are in the Derbyshire IGI. Also can anyone tell us of any non conformism church records for the area.
My husband's family have a family history book on the Bagshaw's who came from England to Ontario. If you would be interested in any of the information you can fax me at 905-372-7933, write me at or telephone 905-372-8882. I would be pleased to pass on any information that might help your research.

David,
I found your name in RSL(Roots Surname List) under the name of Bagshaw.
I am looking for a Mary Bagshaw, married to John Broderick, on 8 Dec
1806
in England. I don't remember the location right now, but could dig it
out.
Let me know if you have any experience or other resources I can access
from the USA to conduct this research. Dennis Broderick. (I emailed
this
http address to Dennis DCB.)
Dear Mr. Blackwell
I have noticed your new membership of the Derbyshire Family History Society, and especially your interest in searching for Bagshaw of HOPE and ABNEY.
I am writing to tell you that I am making a special study of the BAGSHAWs, because my wife is a Bagshaw, and I already have about 10,000 names of Bagshaws, especially in Derbyshire.
What I should like you to do is to tell me what you already know about your ancestors and I shall then see what infomation I have about that branch of the Bagshaws. I would also remark that, if I cannot help lyou, then I shall be surprised if anyone else has the information!
If you are ordering back numbers of the Derbyshire Family History Society journal BRANCH NEWS you will find an article my me about the spread of the Bagshaws, on pages 23 to 26 of BRANCH NEW Issue No.56, March, 1991.
I look forward very much to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely, Roy Newton.
I am still hopeful someone on the web will be able to help me. Perhaps Prof. Newton is also on the web and he may have found something since 1992. I had hoped to visit him in 1994 but ran out of time while researching Blackwells. If you should write to him mention this web page and of my search for Peter Bagshaw of Abney, husband of Ann and father of Alice bap. 1702 Oct.25 in Hope Derbyshire. If you write remember to include return postage if in the U.K. or an international reply coupon if outside the U.K.
